Looking for something to do to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. on his day of recognition? I can’t think of many things better than celebrating the future of our community’s health and diversity than by attending Worcester State’s MLK Youth Breakfast…

Over 300 local students and their families and friends are expected to attend the 17th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Breakfast at Worcester State University, Saturday January 15 at 8:30 a.m. in the gymnasium.  TD Bank is sponsor of the 2011 MLK Youth Breakfast.

The event is designed to build awareness of the principles and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as take a peaceful stand against violence, especially youth violence.  “This event has become one of the premier community events for local youth,” said Worcester State University President Janelle Ashley.  “What makes this event so special is its strong youth focus.  It truly is ‘for youth, by youth.’  This is the clear vision established by the MLK Committee and I commend them for their vision,” Ashley added.

Local students are involved in the planning and development of the program agenda each year, providing an opportunity to develop organizational and developmental skills. The all youth program consists of skits, music, and readings based on Dr. King’s life and teachings.
