2010 Statewide Latino Public Policy Conference Securing the Dream: Power, Progress, Prosperity on Friday, September 17.

The Mauricio Gaston Institute for Latino Community Development and Policy is proud to announce its 2010 Statewide Latino Public Policy Conference entitled Securing the Dream: Power, Progress, Prosperity. The one-day conference will be held on Friday, September 17th at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Conference is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The 2010 conference will bring together participants from of all the regions of the Commonwealth to address public policies and organizational practices affecting Latinos at the local and state level. They will be joined by experts on local, state and national policies. Panelists and other speakers will include a combination of researchers, policy makers, practitioners and community leaders to share their expertise with the audience, and to exchange the most up-to-date information on Latinos in Massachusetts. Our goal is provide a statewide forum for obtaining new knowledge, defining new policies and practices, and strategizing to use the power found in the numbers to advance the Latino dream for progress and prosperity. The opening morning plenary will provide participants with information on the current situation of the Latino community, including updates on health, education, (im)migration, and economic development. The mid-day working lunch is scheduled simultaneously with the Town Hall meetings at which participants will have the opportunity to learn the most recent research from panelists who are leaders in each of the four topic areas of the conference and share their reactions about the findings presented. The afternoon Workshops will be organized on current legislative initiatives and special topics that will prepare participants to formulate an action plan to be used as a reference for promoting changes in policies and practices associated with the main areas addressed in the morning sessions. Participants will provide recommendations for a local and state-level policy actions in Massachusetts.
